Are Christians arrogant for claiming to know the truth about God?

One of the most common complaints about Christians is that they’re so certain. It takes a lot of hubris to say that they’re right about God and everyone else is wrong. Shoot, it takes a lot of arrogance to say that the truth about God can even be known in the first place. Isn’t it more humble to say that we can’t know for sure? I’m going to say something that might be a little shocking. In one sense, the critics can be right. If believing in Jesus is such a huge deal, why doesn’t he do whatever it takes to show himself to me?

Back in New Testament times, Jesus supposedly worked miracles. He healed the sick. He raised the dead. He has even resurrected himself. He said he did these things so we might believe. (John 14:10-11) Shouldn’t he do the same for me if it’s so important that I’m persuaded? Have you ever heard questions like these? Philosophers and theologians have a fancy term for this.
